From the library into the console
In 1.8.0, cartridge movement connects choosing, starting and closing a game. Here is why the transition waits for the game to load and save.
Choose a game and press Play: its cartridge enters the slot. With the cartridge seated behind it, the console turns forward and leads into play. In 1.8.0, this movement connects the library to the game screen.
The default view is a horizontal row of cartridge cards. Browsing and Play are separate actions, and More has its own area. Grid and list remain available; a previously saved view stays selected. On unfolded foldables, browsing and details sit on opposite sides of the hinge.
An inserted cartridge does not mean the game has finished loading. The console turns after seating it, but its screen lights up only when the game is ready. iOS grid view now uses the same insertion transition. Opening directly from a list or enabling Reduce Motion avoids the long movement.
Closing depends on saving. After the screen turns off, the app shows auto-save progress and waits for saving to finish before turning over the console and ejecting the cartridge. An elapsed timer alone cannot send you back to the library. Save failures are reported separately.
Insertion and removal have separate sounds, drawn from recordings of a real DSi slot: a seating click and spring and friction sounds. Turn them off in library view settings for quiet browsing. Reduce Motion skips turning and ejection while preserving the load and save order.
